Enjoy MLK Day in the Georgia Mountains

Rhonda Hood January 13, 2018

Martin Luther King, Jr. will go down in the pages of time as the most influential civil-rights activist of all time. We honor Martin Luther, “The King” who achieved so much for African-Americans everywhere. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, among several other honors. King was assassinated in April 1968, and continues to be remembered as one of the most lauded African-American leaders in history, often referenced by his 1963 speech, “I Have a Dream.”

Some of our most favorite quotes of his are as follows:

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in the moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge & controversy.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we invite you to celebrate his heritage here in Georgia’s northeastern mountains. Georgia’s northeastern mountains are part of the Blue Ridge range, a spine of the Appalachians, which runs from Virginia through North Carolina and extends for almost a hundred miles into Georgia. Lots to do in all of these wonderful communities of Ellijay, Blue Ridge, Blairsville & Hiawassee. Thousands of people make this region a favorite destination—where hiking, whitewater paddling, breathtaking vistas, and traditional crafts and foods like candied apples are all accessible and provide entertainment for the whole family. Enjoy MLK Day in Northeast Georgia and experience a taste of the mountain life. See the links above and plan to visit on Monday, MLK Day to enjoy our rich heritage!
