If you live in these amazing North Georgia mountains, more than likely you’ve been fishing or boating in one of the amazing rivers or lakes that flow from the Hiwassee River. The Hiwassee River watershed boundary includes almost all of the 4-county area: Cherokee & Clay counties in North Carolina and Towns and Union Counties in north Georgia. So what do they do? This amazing non-profit group helps keep the quality of the waters to the highest level possible and in order to do this…they rely on our donations, membership dues and local fundraising like the trout dinner coming up this week on Thursday, May 21st at 6pm at Meeks Park in Blairsville.
HRWC will serve up locally farmed, smoked rainbow trout along with baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, cornbread, your choice of homemade desserts and a drink. This event has become pretty popular, so come early to get a table seat and bring a lawn chair (if you have one) to relax in after you eat. To-go containers will also be available. Proceeds go to support water quality improvement projects throughout the upper Hiwassee River watershed. Buy tickets HERE.
