It’s hard to believe that spring is actually just around the corner. As I type, I am staring at snow piled on the ground, and my kids are tucked away in bed as school is cancelled again. The snow can be lots of fun but….thank goodness that sunshine and warmer days lie ahead as you can begin to prepare for the Breathe Deep Blue Ridge 5K that is to be held on April 19th this year!
Breathe Deep Blue Ridge 5K timed run/walk is a grassroots event planned and managed by the Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, Georgia. Melissa Mercier Lillard, a third-generation family member, was diagnosed in February 2011 with stage IV lung cancer. She was never a smoker, nor was anyone in the family. Their hopes are to raise awareness that lung cancer is no longer just a smoker’s disease, and that lung cancer has no boundaries.
So get ready to come and enjoy a brisk run or a fun walk through the apple blossoms at Mercier Orchards and be a part of a great cause. All of the proceeds go to the LUNGevity Foundation to fund research, early detection, and lung cancer awareness. In addition to the 5K run/walk, they will offer food and live entertainment for the whole family.
Awards will be given out to first, second, and third place winners as well as first, second, and third place 12 and under winners. Mark your calendars now but more details will follow!
