Bald Mountain Camping Resort, located in Hiawassee Georgia, was my very first camping experience. I had never gone camping in my life until after I married my husband, Will Nuckolls. He had very fond memories of camping as a child and his most favorite was Bald Mountain.
Will and I went camping in our new “pop up” that he was eager buy back in 1998. I was unsure of this and the thought of camping really did not appeal to me. However, I was sold on this new camping idea after my very first trip to Bald Mountain. We set up camp in a cool, shaded area, directly on the creek. The beauty of this location and all the fun things to do here had me hooked from the beginning on camping, as well as Bald Mountain.
This campground which consists of over 60 acres, offers RV, pop up as well as tent sites. All of these sites have full hook ups for electric and water. The clean bath facilities are conveniently and strategically located all around the campground. If you prefer, there are cabins available for rent as well.
I think one of the greatest attributes to this campground are all the fun things they offer. There is a game room, 18 hole putt putt coarse, a swimming pool, playground, basketball court , creeks, awesome bike riding areas as well as kayaking, paddle boating and much more. Another appealing quality to Bald Mountain is there are great restaurants, Lake Chatuge, Brass Town Bald (the highest peak in Georgia) the beach and playground area all within a short driving distance from this campground. You will see the article I wrote on the beach area and I will be writing about various restaurants and Brass Town Bald in the weeks to come.
When I asked my husband what his fondest childhood memories of Bald Mountain were, he said “I absolutely loved playing in the creek, woods, riding bikes with my cousins and friends, and most of all daydreaming about how I could one day live in the mountains.” His dream, that eventually was my dream, came true this past summer when we relocated our family to the beautiful community of Blue Ridge.
Whether you are looking to vacation, thinking of purchasing a second home or dreaming of living in the mountains as we did, Bald Mountain is truly one of the top places to come and visit. I have a feeling once you visit, you may never want to leave.
