One of my favorite parks in the North Georgia Mountains is Union County’s Meeks Park. June 7th and 8th, the Blairsville Scottish Festival and Highland Games will be held at this beautiful park. This all volunteer organization uses this festival to promote the Scottish heritage in the area. However, you do not have to be of Scottish heritage to come out and enjoy such a fabulous family event!!!
On Friday night the 7th, the festival will kick off with a kilted golf tournament at Butternut Creek Golf Course and a Ceilidh dinner at the Union County Community Center. On Saturday, many events will take place including tons of kids activities, a weaponry demonstration, genealogy stations, music, animal demonstrations including the art of falconry and border collies, Scottish dancing, workshops, bagpipes and drums and much more!!!
For 5 years in a row, the Southeast Tourism Society has listed this festival as one of the top 20 events for the year!! Kids 12 and under are free! $10 for adults for a one day ticket and $15 for a two day ticket. Each year a ton of fun is to be had at this great event. While you are here, call the Mountain Life Team to show you many options of mountain living in Blairsville and surrounding mountain areas.
