We love all the history our mountains hold here in North Georgia. We have an amazing culture that we love to share with everyone. The Byron Herbert Reece Farm and Heritage Center is a big part of this history and we encourage you to bring the family and tour the entire farm. There’s even a poetry trail. The farm is located in Union County, just south of Blairsville, GA. The home of acclaimed poet and novelist Byron Herbert Reece, the Farm is a place to learn about the man, to learn about rural life in Appalachia in the mid-20th century, and a place to enjoy the beauty of Wolf Creek and the surrounding mountains.
The Reece Farm & Heritage Center is open April through November, Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $4 per person, with students (including college with ID) $3.00. Or, join the Byron Herbert Reece Society and enjoy free admission to visit whenever the Farm is open. Of course some special events may require separate admission charges. Click here for information on becoming a member.
The Farm consists of a Visitor’s Center, Poetry Trail, Reece’s writing studio, the Main Barn which houses the Farm exhibits and the Reece Gallery, the Corn Crib, the Chicken House, the Smokehouse and the Spring House. State of the art exhibits tell the story of the small farmer in Appalachia, showing the tools and methods used to grow food to feed the family. Reece and farming are linked, both in his way of life and in the rhythm of his words on the page. These pics below are just a hint of the interesting culture of mid-20th century culture on the farm!
Also on the site is a pavilion available to rent for weddings and other events, picnic tables and the beautiful Wolf Creek. You can learn more about the Farm with our free app, available on Google Play and on the Itunes App Store.
