In every community there are many anxious high school students awaiting graduation night and getting ready to move on to their next phase of life. Congrats to all of you! You did it! Pat yourself on the back and get ready for what’s yet to come!
Likewise there are many parents who are either ecstatic about your child moving on or holding back the tears that your baby is all grown up – I set the same challenge before all of you. Graduates & Parents alike… take some time and truly reflect on the time you spent together (both good & bad) and really take a look at what you have learned from each other. Seriously, if you’re parental figures of any kind…you are forever changed by this child you have raised & nurtured. Sometimes more patient and sometimes less sane but you’re still changed forever and hopefully you have gleaned some great things as a person from this experience.
And if you’re a boisterous 18 year old ready to solve the world’s ills – you too are forever impacted by the raising you had. So Graduates – no matter your next pursuit…whether you’re planning for military, further education or a job of some kind…always remember who helped get you there and try to understand why they made some of the decisions they did. You are a reflection of your raising….not a carbon copy but a reflection. Take that knowledge, continue to grow and challenge yourself even more.
Situations aren’t always perfect, no perfect families, no perfect people but as long as we try to love and appreciate each other along the way…we can’t help but develop and grow as an individual and build lasting relationships. And in the end..that’s really what it’s all about!
Again, a heart-felt Congratulations to the Class of 2015!
