When Was the First Recorded April Fools’ Day?

Rhonda Hood April 1, 2016

In honor of April Fools’ Day we wanted to share a little history of this holiday filled with practical jokes & national hoaxes. I love how CNN describes it “it’s like Super Bowl Sunday for dad jokes, a day when we can all wake up, fire up the internet, and sigh a collective groan at the barrage of cringe-worthy pranks, tall tales and PR stunts conjured up by desperate media companies and junior brand creatives across the world.”  How’s that for an All Inclusive Description?

So where did this popular gag day originate? Well according to The Denver Post who said Alex Boese, curator of the online Museum of Hoaxes, says you can blame the Dutch (who first referenced April Fool’s in a 16th-century text) or the French (who overhauled their annual calendar in the 1500s, confusing “fools” who didn’t adapt). Or maybe the United Kingdom, home of the first April Fool’s Day prank on record.  Honestly, April Fools’ Day or All Fools’ Day has uncertain origins or more correctly conflicting accounts of when the tradition as we know it is celebrated.

So here’s to a Happy April Fools’ Day from The Mountain Life Team and hope you enjoy the day to the fullest!  The Mountain Life Team | KW Realty Partners | 706-745-3123 or info@themountainlifeteam.com

Pac-man on Google maps?!?!  So those of us who experienced child-hood in the 80s love this one!  Google announced that when you open a map in a browser you can now play Pac-man!  If that were only true!!

And this is a good one but somewhat unbelievable. Samsung, phone maker, introduced the Galaxy Blade edge knife with smart-phone capabilities.  Can cut through a lobster tail & an heirloom tomatoe!

This is my personal fav… Honda: The Selfie Edition.. With all the rage of selfies, Honda did a creative job creating this hoax taken the millenial obsession with selvies and announcing an HR-V with 10 cameras across the interior and exterior which allows drivers to snap self-portraits ONLY while the car is in park.
