As I sit in Blue Ridge this morning in the 13 degree weather, it’s hard to imagine that spring will come in the next several months. However, we all know how quickly time flies and I would like to tell you a place that you should make plans to visit if you enjoy plants and nature…Hamilton Rhododendrom Gardens, located in the beautiful North Georgia Mountain town of Hiawassee.
A botanical paradise bursting with dogwood, tulip magnolias, native azaleas, wild flowers, trillium, and rhododendron. At the Gardens there are over 400 varieties of rhododendron – 3,000 plants in all. The gardens are open all year round, however, the peak season is the last two weeks in April and the first few weeks in May.
The hours of operation are 9am to 3pm and it is only a $3 admission charge. The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds maintain these beautiful gardens. Some other great things to see in the surrounding area are Hiawassee’s Lake Chatuge and Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest mountain peak. So, put it on your spring bucket list to visit the gardens and the great town of Hiawassee. The Mountain Life Team would love you show you some beautiful homes, land or cabins while you are here in the Towns County area.
