Veterans Day is next Tuesday, November 11 and is celebrated in North Georgia as well as around the world with parades, ceremonies, commemorations and the like. I’m thankful we honor our veterans for their self sacrifice and unfathomable duty to our country. In researching our history…I love what the resolution that the US Congress passed on June 4, 1926 – after WWI.
“Whereas it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this date should be commemorated with Thanksgiving and Prayer and excercises designed to perpetuated peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations.”
Love that our Government recognized that the expression of gratefulness is so important that we should commemorate with thanksgiving & prayer. Wow – Glad we live in a country where we have the freedom to do just that. On a lighter note, some interesting facts about Georgia Veterans from the US Department of Veterans Affairs – I had no idea how many Veterans were in Georgia.
