Many of you have heard of Mercier Orchards but I have also been surprised at some people that have not had the opportunity to know about this fabulous place. Mercier is the largest orchard in Georgia at over 200 acres. I drive by Mercier almost everyday as I take my daughter to dance at Studio One or my son to the Fannin County Recreation Center. Each time I pass by, I always look at God’s beauty of the mountain view and all this gorgeous land full of apples!
Merciers is a wonderful place to visit even for the view alone. There is a lake on the property and they have recently added a nice walkway beside the lake. My daughter and her girl scout troop will be having a father/daughter fishing morning there this Saturday. She was thrilled because even through the eyes of a 10 year old child she said, “Oh – that is such a beautiful place – I can’t wait to go there again!”
There is so much to do and see at Merciers. When you walk in you will be surprised at how large the facility really is. There is a bakery / deli located inside and is fantastic! If you have never tried one of their fried pies, I highly recommend it. Also for lunch, the pecan chicken salad sandwich is on the top of my favorites. You will be able to enjoy lunch and also shopping. When I take my kids in there, they want to stay forever because they have adorable toys, knick knacks and of course, tons of goodies.
One of the greatest things about this orchard is the U-Pick days! The tractor ride around this land is free! It is $10 to buy a bag for you to fill up full of yummy apples. It depends on the season as to which types of apples are available. Please understand that the orchard is dependent on rain and other weather conditions for that particular season. For example, the apples have come in earlier this year than normal so it may last till the end of September instead of into October. You need to check their website or facebook page to make sure what is in the Orchards if this is important to you. Currently the U-Pick days are friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 4.
Also, there is a tasting room. Who does not enjoy getting to taste good ole’ apple cider?? It is fabulous and you can taste a variety of different kinds of cider. Currently the tasting room, which is located directly beside the large Mercier building is open Monday through Saturday 11 to 6 and Sunday 12:30 to 6.
If you had not yet had the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful places in the North Georgia Mountains, I recommend you put it at the top of the list. Mercier has been around since 1943 and you should check out their website to read their story. Hope you thoroughly enjoy your visit!
