Popular Trout Fishing Spots – Fannin County Georgia

I have always been amazed at the people standing in the cold water with their long wet boots on, as still as a statue,  waiting for that perfect catch.  Trout fishing is a sport that requires patience and skill and is popular among many fishermen.  The most popular way to trout fish is in streams and rivers.

If you are one of these avid fishermen, or perhaps want to try your hand at it, you should visit two local Fannin County , Georgia Parks.  Did you know that Blue Ridge is known as the trout capital of Georgia according to Georgia Outdoor News?  I remember when I told a good friend of mine I was relocating to Blue Ridge  and he said, “wow, you are moving to the most awesome trout fishing location!”  I guess word had gotten out already about that and I was not even aware at the time.  There was one more positive reason to confirm our relocation plans!

Off of Appalachian Highway, you will see a blue and white sign for Tammen Park   This is a very popular place where you will usually always see someone if not several people trout fishing.  The Toccoa River runs through this park and this is one of the region’s rivers that hold the characteristics required for anglers to find big trout.   This particular location is below the Lake Blue Ridge Dam.  You would want to call 1-800-238-2264 for water release information as this can help determine the best time to fish.   This park also has a ball field, picnic area and playground for you and your family to enjoy.  Another benefit of this park is the 75 foot fishing pier.  Many locals and tourists have visited this park since 1997.

Another fabulous trout fishing hot spot is Horseshoe Bend Park located off Highway 60 in McCaysville Georgia which is another awesome Fannin County town. This park runs parallel to the Toccoa River and is a host to many trout fishermen as well.  This park is designed for group gatherings and offers pavilions, beautiful picnic areas along the river and a playground.  Horseshoe Bend is also known for its Thursday night “Pickin in the Park” where you will hear amazing Blue Grass Music.  Many people come out for this popular event and is something I think anyone would enjoy!  There is still time in the season to enjoy another awesome outdoor North Georgia Mountain family fun activity.

Both of these  parks are ran by  the Fannin County Recreation Center under the leadership of Bernie Hodskins.  It is obvious that this department as well as the citizens of Fannin take great pride in these locations as they are kept up beautifully helping to make them wonderful parks to enjoy.
