Ok – we have talked about fun for New Year’s Eve, but what about New Year’s Day? Sure, we can do the usual like sit around on the couch and watch football and eat until we are completely sick to our stomachs….or we can enjoy some good eating and then walk it off at one of the many Georgia State Parks that will be hosting “First Day Hikes” on January 1st 2014!
The First Day Hike program organized by “Americas State Parks” is an historic event. It represents the first time that all 50 states have collaborated on a nationwide event occurring on the same day. From California to Maine every state park system in the country is participating. Check here for the list of the Georgia Parks that are participating on this special day! If you are visiting the North Georgia Mountains on this day, beautiful Vogel State Park will be one of the ones participating and it will be a blast. This particular park will be hiking the “Bear Hair Gap Trail” and will begin at 9am and continue till approximately 1pm. Please call 706-745-2628 for details on this hike.
As with any hike, please prepare accordingly with layered clothing, water, good hiking shoes, a hat, snacks and a trail lunch if desired. Hiking is fun, healthy and all around fantastic but not if you are not prepared with the proper gear. So, wherever you are in Georgia this new year, you are sure to find a park near you that is participating in this great event! Start the year off right!!! Get that family up and moving!!! Enjoy!!! Please let me know if you get to participate and which park you attended! Hope to see you at Vogel!
