I have always loved watching Little House on the Prairie and wishing I could shop at a store like the Olson’s owned. Although I had rather not deal with Mrs Olson! Well, I got my wish when I was able to visit one of the oldest Union County businesses, Sunrise Grocery in Blairsville, Georgia.
Not only is the family owned business extremely friendly and totally unlike Mrs. Olson, but they carry, as they say, “a little bit of everything.” It is a true country store that sells many local items including seasonal produce, local pottery, applewood smoked trout, sorghum made in the mountains, homemade jellies, bbq rubs and sauces, Georgia cookbooks and even bait and tackle!! These are just a few of the items in stock at this adorable mountain store.
If you are visiting Blairsville, are a local or new to the community, I believe Jason Clemmons’ Sunrise Grocery would be a great place to buy gifts or many items for you and your family. Shop here to support local buying and truly get the experience of feeling like you have gone back in time! This store has definitely come a long way from the Pure Oil gas station it started as in the 1920’s. If you get a chance to stop by, let me know about your experience and what great country homemade item you purchased!
