Theatre Young Harris to Present “Shakespeare’s R & J” this Weekend!

Rhonda Hood September 25, 2017

Theatre in the mountains!  We are so blessed to have an array of theatre productions and artistic events in these beautiful hills.  If you’ve never been to a theatre production at Young Harris College, also known as the enchanted valley, then you’re missing out!

Theatre Young Harris will present Joe Calarco’s Shakespeare’s R & JTuesday-Wednesday, Sept. 26-27, at 7 p.m. in Dobbs Theatre located in the Goolsby Center on the Young Harris College campus. This play is free and open to the public.

When four young prep school students begin taking turns reading William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” aloud, the story itself becomes more and more thrilling. The rigidity of their own lives begins to parallel the lives of the characters in the play. This show is recommended for mature audiences due to strong languages and adult themes.

This production is directed by senior theatre major Andrew Andersen, of Atlanta, Ga., and features senior theatre major Nick Oberheu, of Loganville, Ga., senior music major Sarah Stogsdill, of Shalimar, Fla., and junior English major Alejandro Lemus-Gomez, of Young Harris, Ga.

“I’m excited to see how people take the twist on this classic show,” said Andersen. “It has been a ride putting this show together and I’m hoping everyone who sees the show walks out with a new perspective on it.”

Shakespeare’s R & J” is part of Theatre Young Harris’ Studio Series which features productions showcasing student direction and provides an invaluable educational experience that focuses on the fundamentals of the production process.
Theatre Young Harris is a performing arts organization of the College. Each season, the theatre company presents a full lineup of notable productions, including full-length musicals, innovative dramas, classic plays, children’s shows and more. Auditions are open to YHC students, faculty and staff as well as the community.
