Upcoming Weekend Events In The North Georgia Mountains

Trying to figure out what to do this weekend?  Always plenty of things available in the mountains…Stay tuned each week as I will be posting weekend happenings in the mountains as well as what is going on during the week in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains! 

Blairsville

Misty Mountain Railroad will have a 2pm tour this Friday,  August 3rd  of  America’s largest, privately-owned O-guage train display with 14 Lionel trains traveling over a mile of track through a 4,000 square foot fantasy layout of Southern Appalachia.

Blue Ridge

Are you a lover of art?  The Appalachian Artist Guild is sponsoring a 3D Art Exhibit  which begins on August 4th at the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association.  You will see a variety of pieces made of glass, clay, metal and ceramics.  This display will run through August 31st.  Open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10am to 6 pm.   You will be able to touch and feel these unique items.  For more information, please visit www.blueridgearts.net

Ellijay

For all you shopping enthusiasts…FIRST FRIDAYS is extended shopping hours in downtown Ellijay.  The hours will extend into the evenings from 5 to 8pm.  You will not only be able to browse through the shops later on the first Friday of each month but you will be able to see the work of various local artists, view multiple crafts and hear a variety of singing talent.  For more information, please visit www.gilmerchamber.com

*Farmers Market is open from 8am to 11:30am on Saturdays.  Come out and get your Gilmer County grown produce and purchase crafts make by Gilmer County residents.

*Bring the kids and come ride a tractor through an orchard and pick various apples.  There are 12 varieties of apples according to the season.  Bring the whole family and have a picnic if you like!  You may also see some cows grazing!  The hours are from 10:30 to 5:00pm.  Visit www.redapplebarn.com for more information.

Hiawassee

*The Brasstown Repertory Theatre Company presents The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) at the Byron Herbert Reece Farm and Heritage Center.  $15 a ticket.  $13 for Byron Herbert Society Members.  Please call 706-745-2034 for more information.

*Do you love to play BINGO??  The Northeast Georgia Board of Realtors is sponsoring a family bingo night at the Stephen Masonic Lodge in Young Harris.  Early bird begins at 6.  Otherwise come at 7pm for some bingo fun!
