The North Georgia mountain area is packed full of outdoor adventures, cozy cafes, live music venues, and town festivals. Restaurants in the area offer comfort food like corn on the cob, chicken and dumplings, beef stew, fried chicken, and cornbread, while managing to stay modern with innovative chef-driven eateries scattered around the area. Folks stay entertained by exploring the mountain’s rugged beauty, going to drive-in theaters, and touring wine vineyards.

Shopping & Local Markets

Local farmer’s markets, boutiques, department stores, and specialty shops selling Georgia-made products are plentiful in northern Georgia. Several towns cover the North Georgia mountains and each one of them is unique and has its own charm. The downtown sectors of the mountain towns have a variety of locally-owned specialty shops, as well as big-name superstores to stock up on goods.

The North Georgia mountains are home to all things outdoors and recreation! The beginning of the Appalachian Trail is in the area, as well as several other hikes. Picturesque lakes encompass the valleys and visitors enjoy canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and lounging by the lakes’ shorelines. Northern Georgia has a few school districts, including Union County schools. The district strives to make school a warm and friendly place to learn. They work tirelessly to provide a positive and safe learning environment in which each student has the opportunity to perform academically and behaviorally with success. The Georgia Mountain Research and Education Center is also in the area and provides agricultural innovation in the Appalachian Mountains.
